For first-time moms, it can be especially overwhelming to navigate postpartum anxiety while trying to take care of a newborn baby. As a new Momma, you are likely dealing with a lot of new emotions. postpartum anxiety is common, and it can be triggered by many things. One of the most difficult aspects of postpartum anxiety is trying to cope when visitors come to see the new baby. Everyone wants to hold the baby, but not the Mama.

Here are some tips for coping with postpartum anxiety when visitors come to visit:

-Try to take some time for yourself before visitors arrive. Take a bath, read a book, or just take a few minutes to relax.

-Let your visitor know if you're feeling anxious. It's okay to ask them to leave if the visit becomes too much.

-Don't be afraid to ask for help. For the most part people want to help but just don't know how.

-Try to take some deep breaths and relax your body. Focus on the present moment and try to let go of any negative thoughts. It's also totally ok to tell people visitors aren't really your thing, boundaries are healthy and it's better create those up front.

For visitor's here are some tips and ways to actually be helpful:

  • Skip the flowers, bring over a warm meal and some nice pastries for breakfast and snacks.
  • If you are going to ask Mama how she is doing, be ready to really hear the answer and to offer whatever help she needs.
  • Offer to watch baby while she naps.
  • Lend a helping hand with sweeping some floors or putting a load of laundry away.
  • Offer help in distracting siblings so she can have some alone time with baby.

Flowers just die, but actual support can really make a difference in her recovery.
